wonder takes flight

This large mural was created to greet visitors at the entrance of the National Balloon Museum. I provided multiple mock-ups to the museum board, and the chosen result is this welcoming entry piece, which can double as a fun photo-op. It has a warm and cheery color palette, and the swirling clouds provide a path through the bright balloons and to the rolling Iowa hills below.
I finished this piece March of 2024, as part of the National Balloon Museum’s grand remodel and opening. Unfortunately, one week before the museum was set to reopen, an electrical fire damaged the interior and all new renovation efforts were necessary.
November of 2024, after new drywall was installed, the museum rehired me. I painted the mural - again! It was a unique challenge to use my prior work as a reference, and I did my very best to stay true to my initial idea.
Mural Size: 20’ by 15’ approx
