“The Beauty in Our Backyard” WDMural 2024

My proposal for this mural was in response to the prompt “Our Stories”. I was born in Des Moines, so I gave a lot of thought to how a youth spent in the Iowa outdoors has shaped me into who I am today. I have been an avid bike trail user my whole life - from picking berries out of a burley to riding centuries with my family. I grew up catching bugs, swimming in the lake, and running barefoot through the grass. My respect and reverence for the natural world has only grown since. This piece aims to convey the sense of surprise and wonder the natural world gives me, and I hope it inspires the viewer to get out there and explore!
